Greetings dear friends of IAI,
I hope and pray this message finds each of you well. With October having disappeared in the blink of an eye, I suddenly realized that I am already a month into my term as President of IAI. I consider it a privilege and pleasure to serve in this capacity and look forward to collaborating with all of you to continue making IAI a valuable organization for its members and our industry.
Many of my family members, friends, and colleagues are anxious to put 2020 in the rearview mirror. I am inclined to agree; however, I am cognizant of the fact that there is much to be thankful for despite our human tendency to focus on the negative stuff. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I challenge each of us to give thanks every chance we get. Charles Dickens said it like this: “Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has plenty; not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some." On the difficult days, perhaps take the advice of Charlie Brown: “I’ve developed a new philosophy…I only dread one day at a time.” There is subtle wisdom in this otherwise funny quote from a beloved Charles Schultz cartoon character.
Taking my own advice, I want to thank those of you who participated in this year’s virtual summit, especially those who sponsored the event. In addition, thank you to our board members and committee members, especially former President (now Past-President) Gregg Freeby and the following board members who recently completed their terms: Amadeo Saenz and Charles Quade.
For me and many others, IAI continues to be a beneficial and unique organization with collaboration between owners, contractors, and engineers as its primary focus. The founders of IAI and those of us who continue to carry the torch firmly believe in the power of bringing these groups together. With that being said, I have three primary objectives for IAI in 2021:
Double the involvement of contractors in the 2021 IAI Summit (from the 2019 summit levels).
Conduct a strategic planning workshop with our Board of Directors with input from each IAI committee.
Provide our members additional continuing education opportunities through a lunch-and-learn webinar series.
The 2021 IAI Summit is scheduled for July 26 – 28 at the Omni Houston Hotel in Houston. More information will follow soon on this event. We hope to see all of you there.
